Education Secretary Urges Schools To Go Plastic Free

The education secretary, Damian Hinds has urged schools to eliminate single-use plastic by 2022. Damian used Georgeham primary school as an example of how schools can ditch single-use plastics.

Georgeham primary school is the first school in the country to be recognised as plastic-free by Surfers Against Sewage.

The first step in eliminating plastic waste is to first evaluate current plastic usage. From there, organisations can plan how they can eliminate single-use plastics. Often relatively minor changes can significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste.

For example everyday items such as straws, bags and food packaging can be switched for compostable alternatives.
